We are pleased to announce that PPMI | Part of the Verian Group has begun work on a new project for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG R&I), establishing a business intelligence capacity to identify and analyse emerging technologies in industry worldwide.
The project addresses a central challenge for European competitiveness: detecting promising technologies at an early stage and determining where the European Union holds a strong strategic position relative to global competitors such as the United States, China and Japan. Drawing on an operational database covering more than 22 million companies, integrating company financials, patents, trade flows and start-up funding, our team applies a bottom-up taxonomy of emerging technologies built from scientific publications, patent data and generative artificial intelligence.
Over the course of the project, PPMI will deliver thematic analyses, rapid-response tables, alert briefs and an interactive dashboard, while exploring how artificial intelligence can strengthen pattern recognition and data interpretation. The result will equip DG R&I with up-to-date indicators and analytical reports that support evidence-based decisions on European research, innovation and industrial competitiveness.
