SG REFORM commissioned project commences to strengthen supply chain resilience in selected EU member states

A new research project commissioned by the SG REFORM has officially started. The project aims to strengthen the resilience and strategic autonomy of supply chains in four EU Member States, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Romania. It is carried out by PPMI | Part of the Verian Group team in cooperation with McKinsey & Company and focuses on helping national authorities analyse industrial capabilities, identify investment opportunities, and improve coordination mechanisms to better respond to future supply chain disruptions.

The project applies a data-driven, mixed-methods approach to map and assess industrial and production capacities in key strategic ecosystems, including shipbuilding and marine equipment, critical raw materials, and pharmaceuticals. It draws on a large-scale proprietary company-level database covering over 22 million European firms and integrates data from Eurostat, national statistical offices, and commercial sources such as Orbis, Dealroom, and PATSTAT. This analysis will be complemented by desk research and interviews with national authorities, industry representatives, and other key stakeholders.

The work will also include the design of a common analytical IT platform and the development of recommendations for governance and coordination structures among the participating Member States. The project’s findings and final report will provide practical insights and methodological tools to support evidence-based policymaking and enhance the EU’s overall capacity to manage critical supply chain challenges.
