PPMI is thrilled to support ETF in establishing the Sector Skill Councils (SSC) and promoting skills development in Egypt's renewable energy sector. This project is part of our broader work in the Egyptian technical and vocational education sector, which PPMI successfully kicked off earlier this year.
The establishment of the SSC and skills development in the renewable energy sector is a key component of broader strategic initiatives supported by the European Union Delegation in Egypt and ETF. In addition to the ongoing assessment of the TE 2.0 strategy led by PPMI, it also includes feasibility studies for new training programmes. These initiatives aim to align Egypt's TVET output with the specific needs of the renewable energy sector, enhancing workforce quality and meeting emerging skill demands. This effort is designed to ensure that educational reforms contribute effectively to Egypt's sustainable economic growth, integrating with global energy trends and the national vision for renewable energy expansion.
This initiative is aligned with new legislative developments and aims to harness insights from the 2023 ETF study titled "the Future Skills Need in the Egyptian Energy Sector" which provides a detailed analysis of skills demand, key drivers of future skills requirements, adoption of new energy technologies, emerging skill needs, and barriers to sectoral innovation, offering targeted recommendations to stakeholders.
The core tasks of this assignment include identifying and engaging key actors across the sector to participate in the SSC. These actors play a crucial role in developing a specific mandate for the SSC, influenced by the evolving regulatory framework. The Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) is responsible for coordinating these efforts, ensuring that they align with existing projects such as the TVET Promotion 06 Project, co-funded by KfW and the EU, including earlier surveys and dialogue events with employers that will form the foundation for the SSC's further development.
The SSC will be officially launched following a detailed capacity needs assessment to identify the developmental needs of this newly formed council. Based on this assessment, an action plan for capacity building will be developed and presented for the approval of SSC members. This plan will include practical training sessions and a peer learning visit abroad, aimed at enhancing the institutional capacity and effectiveness of the SSC in driving sectoral growth and innovation.
