On 27 October 2023, together with Eurostat, the Prague University of Economics and Business and the Czech Statistical Office, PPMI hosted a co-creation workshop, which marked a significant milestone in the ongoing “Study on the future development of the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS)”.
The goal of the study is, firstly, to review the current objectives and implementation of EMOS and, secondly, to identify and explore possible options for its future development as an international and attractive Master's label. The purpose is to ensure that EMOS educates qualified experts to fill skills gaps in official statistics at national and European level and contributes to the harmonisation of European statistics.
Through extensive desk research, more than 80 interviews, and two surveys, PPMI has collected insights from EMOS labelled programmes, official statistics students, and their potential employers. Having identified the main challenges and strengths of the EMOS label, the aim of the workshop was to co-create options for its future development and to identify potential barriers and challenges to the implementation of these solutions. The workshop applied an adaptation of the design sprint methodology, which helps teams quickly build and test solutions for a challenge. Around 90 participants joined, including representatives of EMOS-labelled master's programs, national and international organisations producing official statistics, EMOS students and graduates, EMOS Board members and other partners.
The workshop concludes the information collection phase in the ongoing study on the future development of EMOS. Stay tuned for the results coming in 2024!
