PPMI successfully concludes a groundbreaking project for EIGE, advancing gender-responsive evaluations for a sustainable future for all

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has recently concluded the 'Gender-responsive evaluation for a sustainable future for all (GREENA)'.

The project aimed to advance gender-responsive evaluations in the EU, fostering gender mainstreaming and bolstering accountability to gender equality within the context of the EU green transition.

As a key outcome, PPMI helped to develop the GREENA step-by-step toolkit on gender-responsive evaluation for a sustainable future for all. This innovative toolkit equips users with practical know-how and support to assess gender impacts and conduct gender-responsive evaluations within the EU evaluation framework and the European Green Deal.

The toolkit aspires to contribute to the design of future interventions that not only meet the diverse needs and priorities of women and men but also actively support the identification and mitigation of negative gender impacts. Ultimately, the toolkit seeks to ensure a green transition that leaves no one behind. Its target audience includes policymakers, policy officers, and monitoring and evaluation officers in the EU.

As an integral part of the project, EIGE and PPMI organized an experts’ meeting in June 2023. Beyond raising awareness and enhancing the capacity of participants to conduct gender-responsive evaluations, the session served to test and gather feedback from the toolkit’s intended users and EIGE’s stakeholders. The research team incorporated the valuable feedback obtained during the session into the development of the GREENA toolkit, ensuring its alignment with the stakeholders’ needs and experiences, reflecting a user-focused approach.

In addition to the toolkit, the team crafted three knowledge-based communication products aimed at raising awareness and expertise among relevant stakeholders. These include:

PPMI collaborated closely with RAND Europe and environmental evaluation expert Cecilia Moreno to implement this impactful project.
