PPMI is launching a study on online and platforms work in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region
Continuing our research stream on platform work, PPMI is launching a new study on this topic. It will build on the work already conducted together with the ETF in the Eastern Partnership countries and Western Balkans. This time, we will expand the geography of our research to the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) countries.
Applying the conceptual and analytical framework used in the earlier studies, first, we will explore how prevalent the online and platform work is in the SEMED countries, and what kinds of such work are the most popular. Then, we will look into the relevant regulatory and policy framework, and the challenges that the online and platform work raise in this regional context. Finally, we will explore how the online and platform work could be used to solve the prevalent issues, such as youth unemployment and gender inequality in labour markets, among others.
