PPMI completes its fourth series of the Gender Equality Index factsheets!

PPMI has completed a project on the ‘Country factsheets of the Gender Equality Index 2022’ for the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

The Index factsheets support the communication of the results of EIGE’s annual update on the state of gender equality in the EU and Member States.

The factsheets provide a detailed country analysis, showing the progress since 2010. In each factsheet – one for each Member State and the EU as a whole – the team identified and described the positive developments, areas for improvement and setbacks.

In line with the thematic focus of the 2022 edition of the Index, the factsheets also include information on the socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender equality.

The research team also prepared a policy brief on gender equality and youth as part of EIGE’s support to the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. The policy brief examines the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young women and men in the EU.

The policy brief identifies specific challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the increase in unemployment rates, especially among people with a migrant background. It also sheds light on the pervasive gender inequalities in the labour market that young women face and the unequal distribution of unpaid care among young women and men.

The policy brief also includes gender-responsive recommendations for policymakers designed to engage and empower young people in the EU, in line with the priorities of the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 and the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025.

Recently, the Council of the EU extensively relied on the findings of the brief for its Conclusions on gender equality in disrupted economies with a focus on young people.
