In September 2020, PPMI has launched a study to identify how initial teacher education system in Lithuania should be improved, taking into consideration the expected structural changes in the education system, i.e. earlier age of enrolment in pre-primary and primary education, renewed national curricula and the development of inclusive education.
Initiated by the National Agency for Education, this project will assist in preparing a renewed model of initial teacher education in Lithuania considering the selection criteria of candidates for pedagogical studies and the implementation of pedagogical studies programme (content, structure, study process and academic achievement included). The analysis will be informed by the desk research, focus groups and semi-structural interviews will stakeholders, including policy makers, teacher education institutions, teachers’ educators, etc.
Based on the analysis of the initial teacher education systems of the United Kingdom (Scotland), Finland, the Netherlands and Estonia, PPMI will design a hypothetical model of initial teacher education suitable for the Lithuanian context and provide practical recommendations and plan for the implementation of hypothetical model.
