How to foster more socially engaged universities in Europe

In 2018 PPMI has signed a partnership agreement with Technische Universit’t Dresden (TU Dresden) and Institute for the Development of Education (IDE) in Croatia (leading partners) to implement a project ’Towards a European Framework for Community Engagement of Higher Education’ (TEFCE) funded by Erasmus+ Key Action 3.

This project involves 12 other partners (stakeholders, piloting universities and local municipalities) from Germany, Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Norway, Spain and Ireland.

The project partners argue in favor of making community engagement an integral part of university’s core activity and enhancing the social impact of higher education. TEFCE will directly contribute to fostering social innovation by developing innovative policy tools for supporting, monitoring and assessing the framework for community engagement of universities. More specifically the project partners aim to:

1. Develop and pilot an innovative toolbox (including specific measures for guidance, assessment and peer-learning) on the community engagement of universities.

2. Assess the feasibility of launching innovative tools for policymakers and stakeholders to monitor, measure and incentivise framework for community engagement of universities at the European level.

The project is expected to be completed by 2020.
