PPMI will contribute to Farm to Fork Strategy by assessing the EU school fruit, vegetables and milk scheme

In May 2022, Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) contracted PPMI to conduct a ‘Study on the EU school fruit, vegetables and milk scheme’. The overall objective of this study is to contribute to the evaluation of the EU school fruit, vegetables and milk scheme and underpin the review of the legislative framework for the project that the Commission will propose in 2023 as part of the actions under the Farm to Fork Strategy that aims to accelerate the transition to a sustainable food system.

The context of the study concerns the health, nutrition, education and sustainability aspects of the school scheme. The study will promote sustainable food consumption and the development of sustainable food chains and correspond to the current and evolving needs within the EU in light of developments and trends regarding children’s diets and health, and the environment. The study covers the aid scheme for supplying fruit and vegetables and milk and milk products in educational establishments.

For the implementation of the project, the study team will carry out thorough desk research, survey, interview programme and 8 case studies conducted by national experts.

The study is conducted in cooperation with AFC Consulting Group AG (Germany), and the study results are planned to be available in the spring of 2023.
