PPMI, together with ICF, has recently been awarded a project to develop a cross-EU approach to monitor Learning for Sustainability (LfS)

To accomplish the goals of the European Green Deal, the EU Council recommends all member states support the learning for sustainable development and green transition in all phases of education and training. LfS is also among the primary areas for member states to achieve their shared vision for a European Education Area. Along with putting an effort into promoting LfS, the council also highlights the importance of monitoring the made progress.

Monitoring progress is particularly crucial for member states in three key areas:

  • Assisting educational and training institutions in formulating, supervising, and assessing their sustainability strategies, or integrating sustainability into current processes and measures;
  • Facilitating the execution of national and other policies and strategies, including those concerning related concepts such as education for sustainable development, via monitoring and follow-up mechanisms;
  • Investing in monitoring, research and evaluation of the policy challenges and of the impact of these initiatives in order to build on lessons learnt and inform policymaking.

In this context and study, PPMI and ICF have been contracted by DG EAC to create a comprehensive conceptual framework on LfS and how it can be monitored. The framework will be developed using existing literature reviews, SWOT analysis and mapping and comparative analysis of other conceptual frameworks and focus group discussions. It will be compared against existing sources for indicators (input, process, outcome, impact, etc) before the team will produce concrete, actionable recommendations for the EU and Member States.
