The European Training Foundation (ETF) has been appointed by the EU Delegation to the African Union (AU) to spearhead the critical project, "Support to the implementation of the African Continental Qualifications Framework (ACQF) (ACQF-II)".
In 2023, PPMI has been awarded a contract by the ETF to support the ACQF-II implementation team of experts. For more details on the project, see our previous piece of news on the project.
The first period of the project was set to end in August, with PPMI being entrusted to continue supporting activities. In this first period, PPMI conducted surveys on National Qualifications Frameworks (NQFs), micro-credentials, and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) practices in Africa, gathering essential evidence for ACQF-II implementation. Currently, we are undertaking a task focusing on micro-credentials in Seychelles, aiming to provide information and support to policy-making in the country.
The next period of the project will continue the ongoing activities and aims to support:
- development and implementation of NQFs and related policies in indicated countries, organisation of referencing to ACQF;
- development and implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Campaign and RPL policies in indicated countries – linked to NQFs and ACQF;
- development and implementation of credit systems in indicated countries;
- linkages between ACQF and the Addis Recognition Convention Committee;
- development of common profiles of qualifications;
- capacity development at national, regional, and continental levels.
The successful implementation of ACQF-II is anticipated to yield numerous advantages for the participating countries. ACQF-II is set to enhance the transparency, trustworthiness, and comparability of qualifications, leading to the recognition of skills and diplomas. This will foster increased mobility and lifelong learning opportunities for the youth of Africa.
